Brilliant night, banter, one liners, heckles, everyone singing with them, the band playing one member off against another with an unrehearsed stage act. Thanks to the band.

Phil Langran

Sunday 11 October

A very enjoyable evening was had by all. Phil and the band were laid back and on form performing songs by phil himself very, much a crossover between contemporary Folk and Country. I really love his material, lots of Major Seventh Chords with bosonova type beats, real chill out music. Don't miss these boys at the Moira Furnace Folk Festival in August 2010.

Jim Reynolds

Sunday 9 August

A small but very appreciative audience turned up to see Jim. He delighted us with his self penned compositions, sang and played with pure musicianship, old country blues numbers and a few show songs and tunes. Jim had us in a laid back mood and refreshed us with his light hearted humour and easy going way with the audience.

Robin Williamson (Incredible String Band)

Sunday 12 July

A good crowd turned up to see Robin from as far away as Stratford and Telford. We were entertained by 2 really good floor spots and then Robin started his first set. The audience was spell bound by his renditions of incredible string band favourites, Celtic stories with harp accompaniment and more recent songs written by Robin. My favourite song by Robin was 'Circle Unbroken' which can be heard on the sound bites. An incredible evening by an incredible songwriter, story teller, musician, and singer! Thanks to all who attended, the floor singers and Robin himself.

Tom Patterson and Dave Morton

Sunday 26 April

What a very peaceful and enjoyable evening we had. John Prowse, Alan Price and Debbie Warren did admirable floor spots and Tom and Dave carried on the relaxed atmosphere with two very professional sets covering Tom's self penned trad songs, folk classics that got us all singing along and lesser known but equally appealing trad songs. Must mention Dave's juggling to music, very entertaining. Thanks to all who attended and a big thanks to Tom and Dave.

Belzebub

Sunday 29 March

A well known band from the 70's and 80's are back on the scene! They are vibrant, excellent musicians and singers, that some died in the wool folkies, might not except, because of the use of electric piano and electric bass. I find them as good as the Spinners and don't be put off by the name, they are really nice people. They gave us a really great night with excellent patter and banter. I will remember the night fondly when listening to their album 'up jumped the devil'. Thanks to the floor singers and those who supported the club and the act.

Pamela Ward & Paul Cherington
Sail On By

Sunday 8 March

Three people turned up for this act!. This did not deter them from entertaining us with very melodic songs sung well with great musicianship. The history of the songs were told and a very rounded professional patter maintained. If we had an audience and some floor singers this would have been a star night, I'm sure. Thanks to those who supported the club and the act.

Mitres Well

Sunday 22 February

A reasonable sized audience turned up, all in good spirits to enjoy the evening, and what an evening it was! No floor spots turned up to play in the first half so Mitres Well took to the stage in fine form. They had us laughing at the jokes, singing along and listening intently to the serious songs and enjoying every minute of it. The humour seemed unrehearsed and spontaneous and each member of the band fed off each other and the audience to capture great one liners that had us in stitches. The second half saw Alan Price perform a very humorous monologue that he had written himself about a crazy biker in North West Leicestershire. We were in stitches of laughter! Alan also perform a traditional song that went down well. Mitres Well came back on to great applause and really got going in the second half. We sang our hearts out to some well known songs and really enjoyed 'The Anker And The Tame' sung so well by Steve Edkins. Steve Swaffer did a beautiful rendition of 'Red Is The Rose' and the night was rounded off nicely with more great chorus songs. Anyone who thinks they have seen and heard all that this band has got to offer at local Morris dos and as floor spots at the Tamworth folk club are much deluded. These guys have real talent and on a guest night like this, their music, combined with their humour, really make a very special night indeed!

Sally Barker - The Joni Mitchell Project

Sunday 11 January

Sally Barker - The Joni Mitchell Project

The house was packed and we were warmed up by Pete Tomlynson who played and sang some great country blues, Rosie on flute (very nice playing) and Collin with his very funny monologues. Robert and Julie Elverstone finished the floor sets with a beutiful song. Sally was so modest and laid back she put us all at ease. Then she began to blow us away with Joni Mitchell songs played and sung so well with brilliant backing on piano from her session man Glen. I honestly thought she sounded better than Joni herself, the arrangements were truely better at least! This lady is absolutely fantastic, so natural with every song gripping you to the end. Glen accompanied Sally with dulcimer on a number of songs and the audience continued to be enthralled. The second half got underway with the same floor spots entertaining us superbly. Sally continued the night with Joni's hits such as Chelsey Morning (that was requested) and ended her set with Big Yellow Taxi. This brought the house down! She did two oncores and that ended the night on a great note. If I can I will book Sally for next year. Thanks to all who attended.
